These authors reported a positive relation between woody species diversity and resistance of canopy greenness against drought in forests on dry locations, whereas no such relation was discovered in more moist forests. While wild bamboo commonly grows in riverside brakes or understory thickets, in places it forms large, monotypic stands -- true bamboo forests -- somewhat unusual among tropical vegetation communities, typically so diverse.
